Wordless Wednesday - A Fishy Addition to the Family

Nailah, my silly dog, got to visit the Redland U-Pick Fish Farm.
We went to get her new little sister: a Black Ranchu Goldfish!

This past week Niles got a new sister, a black Ranchu goldfish! Fuyu the goldfish is settling in nicely and so far the cats and dog have been pretty much ignoring her.

Nailah the dog hanging out with Fuyu the goldfish.
Even though they're not paying attention to her now, when we went to the Redland U-Pick Fish Farm Niles was certainly interested in her then. We took Nailah along and she got to see a bunch of interesting things and sniff some unique smells too!

Our new video this week goes into some detail about how I got my new pet fish, so please give it a watch!

Congratulations on your new fish. We have a outdoor pond that has goldfish., Most of them are 16-18 yrs old and were first raised in a tank but 0 yrs ago got moved outside. Now we have parrot fish and cichlids in our indoor tank.
I do like your tank but I would highly recommend more gravel at the bottom. A thin layer will do and it will assist in biological filtration plus it looks more natural. I am a old school fish keeper so there may be newer ways of doing it that I am not aware of. I just know that with no gravel at the bottom it can get slimy with goldfish if not cleaned regularly.

Hey Carma! :)

I actually used to have gravel in my old tank but after reading about bare bottom tanks decided to switch. Goldfish are really messy fish (as I'm sure you're aware!) and a lot of people have found that gravel adds to the problem. In order to help my beneficial bacteria have lots of growing space I've put in two bags of biomax ceramic filter media into my two filters. So far this has worked fine for me but if I run into any issues I may take up your advice!

Thanks for stopping by! :D

What beautiful fish! We were fish people for a long, long time. I kinda miss having them.

Looks like fun! I'd like to see Nailah swim in that pond!

We LOVE visiting The Redlands, so I can't wait to check out the fish farm next time we go! Glad you suggested not bringing dogs since my first thought when you started the video was that we could take Daisy. But she would lose her mind with free roaming farm animals LOL!

Congratulations on the new fish. No one give goldfish the credit they deserve. They are very smart and get to know their owners. I have a Koi pond (with just one goldfish), but all of the fish come to greet me every morning.

What a great new edition! It may be a good thing that your new fishy isn't getting too much attention from the cats :)

I hear you can train fish to do tricks. I think you should investigate this.

Unfortunately I had to watch your video without the sound. But I loved watch you pick your new addition. And Nailah's commentary.

I love fish but am terribly frightened I wouldn't be able to care for them well enough. I guess I'll stick with snorkeling to get my fish fix. Or watching your videos. :)

WHOA! I wanna go to the fish farm! Breakfast, lunch and dinner swimming right in front of me. TW sez if we had a fish I’d get something called arthur-itis in my paw.

LOl. Love it. Fish are pretty fun to have around.

Very cool!! Congrats on your new fish... we just looked in the tank this morning and overnight we had about 20 new live births!! We just can't stop the guppies, they have seemed to flourish since we put in a new Fluval pump :)

nailahbone said...

Isn't it? :D Goldfish actually get pretty big when they're full grown, around 8 inches! Also they can live up to 20 years, pretty impressive, right? :)

The owner has netting covering the whole area so the fish are safe from birds. You have to go in through a little opening and it closes back up when you pass through.

Thanks for stopping by!

nailahbone said...

Thank you! :D Oh, I used to keep guppies and platties! I didn't have much luck with the guppies but the platties bred like crazy!

I've heard some good things about Fluval, glad it's working out well for you guys!

They are a lot of fun to watch! :) Thanks so much for stopping by!

nailahbone said...

Thank you! I really love her gold belly, it really makes her stand out.

Were you? :) Salt or fresh?

nailahbone said...

It was a ton of fun! :) I love fish so we both had a blast (my dad did too, he was the one holding the leash!).

Aw, thanks so much for following! :) We hope to keep you guys entertained!

nailahbone said...

Thank you! :) They get really light in the sun.

nailahbone said...

Lol! Don't put it past her. At one point I thought she was gonna go after the butterfly koi! XD Thanks for stopping by!

nailahbone said...

Oh, do you guy visit Miami often? :) We should meet up when you come in for a visit!

Yeah, the place was super awesome but the loose animals worry me. One of the dogs was very friendly but the other was a bit growly. Nothing happened but I'll leave Niles at home next time. :)

nailahbone said...

Thank you! :) I agree, people really underestimate these guys! My previous fish would eat out of my hands and was very playful!

I've always dreamed of having a pond. I'd love to stock it with butterfly telescopes! :)

Thanks for stopping by!

Thank you! My older cat is actually scared of the fish tank. Whenever I carry him past it he flips out! Thanks for dropping in on us! :)

nailahbone said...

She was taking it all in! :) At the very end she noticed that someone was walking in front of our house, that's why she got that alert look.

Thanks for dropping in on us!

nailahbone said...

This is true! :) I'm actually going to look into it and see if I can get Fuyu to learn a trick or two. Thanks for the suggestion!

nailahbone said...

Aw, that's too bad! :) I'm glad you were still able to enjoy it without the voice over or music.

Fish keeping can be stressful at times, and water changes can be time consuming. Even though that's the case I still enjoy it! :) My mom on the other hand can't stand it! Snorkeling seems like a pretty cool way of getting your fix it! You should take an underwater camera with you next time and blog about it! :)

Thanks for stopping by!

nailahbone said...

I'm sure you would have had a lot of fun there, CK!

Hmm, I think I may know why TW says that! XD Probably for the best you guys don't get any fish!

Thanks for stopping by!

RascalandRocco said...

Haha, I like what CK said. However, we do have fish. Fun to watch the fishy box, but still haven't gotten the lid off. What's with that? Hope you'll actually get to play with your new buddy!

So great that they let Nailah come help pick out the fish! And very cool new addition to the household.
Way back in the day the Husband and I had a freshwater tank - not with goldfish, but a variety of other things. It was cool, but we ended up rehoming it with a friend eventually.

Fresh. It's where we started out, so we stuck with it. I loved our gouramis. Beautiful fish.

Love you tank!!!! Very beautiful! That place looks amazing as well!

No, we don't have any fish here, with 3 cats and 3 huskies, we have plenty here! BOL Can't wait to hear the news you have to share!

ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!

My cat loves watching our tank. Dogs not so interested. My favourite 5 year old fish got large and was very friendly but he died a few weeks ago. We have a big full pond outside too- I hope they survived this year. X S

I love watching fish swim around, I can get entranced for hours!

nailahbone said...

Very cool! :) I had a powdered blue dwarf gourami at one point, one of the prettiest fish I've ever had!

nailahbone said...

Me too! :) I sometimes sit in front of the tank when I'm writing or doing things on line.

nailahbone said...

Sometimes pet stores can have some awesome fish but sadly the ones in my area aren't the greatest. I'm really glad I was able to find this place, it's a really cool place to visit! :)

Fish can be a lot of work, especially if you move a lot. I had to transport my tank when I moved down here a year ago and it was a pain! Thanks for stopping by! :)

nailahbone said...

Lol! I can see how you would agree with that comment! ;) The cats are actually kind of scared of the tank (big babies) so they steer clear of it. :)

nailahbone said...

Yeah, it was really nice of the owner. :) He's an animal lover and he was all for her being there.

Very cool! :) Fish keeping can be a pretty taxing hobby but it can be a lot of fun too.

Thanks for stopping by!

nailahbone said...

Thanks! :D I tried going with a zen theme. I'll probably end up changing it when we upgrade our tank but for now I'm happy with it.

nailahbone said...

Aw, sorry to hear about your fish. :( It's never easy losing a pet.

I've always dreamed of having a big goldfish pond, I hope to have one in the future when I have my own house.

Thanks for stopping by!
